Biography

Nicolas Fattouh is an emerging theatre artist, visual artist, and animation director living between Lebanon and Canada. He has participated in over 30 local and international art exhibitions and auctions with his paintings, sculptures, and installations, including at Bonhams (London) in 2016.

Nicolas’s love for theatre began at the age of 8 when he directed small plays with the help of his sisters and school friends, performing them for parents and neighbors in his backyard.

Passionate about storytelling and drawing, he pursued his education in 2D/3D animation at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts, graduating with a master’s degree (valedictorian) in 2017. His first professional animation “How my Grandmother became a chair” won the Filmprize of the Robert Bosch Stiftung at the BERLINALE and was later selected in 135 film festivals around the world.

In 2021, Nicolas made his theatrical debut with his first professional hybrid play, “Living with a Piece of Furniture”, which aimed to make history by helping his 95-year-old grandmother become the eldest president of the Sorority of the Immaculate Conception in her village. The play was selected in many festivals including the Zoukak Sidewalks Festival (Beirut) in December 2022 and the Zürcher Theater Spektakel (Switzerland) in August 2023.

Artistic statement

My purpose is to create art that transcends the boundaries of abstraction, touching the hearts and souls of those who contemplate it, and revealing the beauty and essence of our existence.

Through my creations, I explore a variety of profound themes, ranging from friendship to aging, and from family bonds to love.

My art serves as a medium to express these essential aspects of the human condition. I want to capture the emotions and reflections associated with these themes in my work, suggesting a perspective on their significance in our lives.

Each project I create tells a story; exploring the richness of friendship, the solitude of aging, the warmth of a family, and even the delicate beauty of fading sensations.

My artistic approach is based on the use of various materials, including collage, acrylic, resin, and wood sculpture, which serve as mediums to convey emotions. My inspiration comes from my artistic family, as well as from everyday life and encounters with the ordinary people I meet each day.
